Four years after the ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme piloted in Telangana, logistic and technological challenges abound. An on-ground assessment shows the scheme has been a lost opportunity against heightened migrant food insecurity in the state.


Hyderabad is home to one of the largest migrant populations in India. The government welfare schemes are yet to reach them. Wages are low and living conditions are sub-standard, but migrant workers still have reasons to hold fast to the city.

Hyderabad was recently ranked as one of the leading women-friendly cities. The city has good representation of women in the workforce. However, there seems to be a divide between the actual concept of women’s inclusivity and its understanding among people and organisations.
