Students are permitted to check out books during any rotation except the last rotation before Winter break and the last 2 rotations of the school year. Students 2nd-8th grades are allowed to borrow 2 books at a time, not including their class set book (if checked out individually).
FIRST GRADE
1st Semester: students are allowed 1 book at a time, they are limited to our "Easy Section"
2nd Semester: students will be allowed to check out 2 books at a time and may check out chapter books, in our "Junior Fiction Section"
However, 1st grade will continue to use our "Easy Non-Fiction Section" for all non-fiction books.
Quarter 3
1st grade : Dictionary Skills- learn how a dictionary is oraganized and how to find the words
2nd Grade: Dictionary Skills- students will learn and practice finding words in a dictionary and how to decide which definition to use in a specific sentence.
3rd- 8th Grades: We will be focusing on "fun reading" each grade has picked books they would like to read in class- intended to encourage a Love of reading
3rd-8th Grades: Each class will be responsible for keeping one small section of books in order. This is intended to teach the importance of having the library in order.
6th-8th grades: Gratitude Journals- continue journal writing to encourage students to be grateful for what they have and opportunities they're given.
Quarter 2
1st grade : Start listening comprehension- am I able to answer simple questions about the story?
2nd Grade: Dictionary Skills- students will learn and practice finding words in a dictionary and how to decide which definition to use in a specific sentence.
3rd- 8th Grades: Reading Comprehension and Communication skills: Students read a short passage and then discuss with their peers to determine the best answer for the questions.
3rd-8th Grades: Each class will be responsible for keeping one small section of books in order. This is intended to teach the importance of having the library in order.
6th-8th grades: Gratitude Journals- we're starting journals to encourage students to be grateful for what they have and opportunities they're given.
Quarter 1
1st grade : Library Manners, answering the question: how should I act in the Library?
2nd Grade: Listening Comprehension: Am I able to listen carefully enough to answer questions about the book?
3rd- 8th Grades: Reading Comprehension and Communication skills: Students read a short passage and then discuss with their peers to determine the best answer for the questions.
3rd-8th Grades: Each class will be responsible for keeping one small section of books in order. This is intended to teach the importance of having the library in order. 6th- 8th grades: composition books due Oct. 10th to start gratitude journals quarter 2
