Support Literacy 2023
Hello authors,
I am so excited about this Support Literacy 2023 Book Fair. Thank you to those authors who have confirmed their appearance. Thank you to those who sent their regrets. Just a reminder to those still thinking, the deadline is October 23rd to RSVP.
The details I have for you so far are as follows:
Over 45 confirmed authors and growing,
The silent auction items are arriving.
Multiple lines of advertising including television are in the works.
Set up can begin at 12:30 at Stone Harbor.
Coffee and ice water will be provided during the day.
OtherWorlds is doing all the money collecting and is responsible for all sales taxes. Payment will be made via check or PayPal by November 15th.
The split of the book sales is as follows, 60% to author, 35% to OtherWorlds, and 5% to Literacy Door County.
A few authors have expressed interest in creating items to sell extra with all proceeds going towards LDC.
There is a bar and restaurant on site. For those wishing to book a room overnight, this will be in off season, so rates are lower.
Address of Stone Harbor is 107 N 1st Street and the phone is 920-332-6802. For a less expensive and unique overnight experience, across the street is Holiday Music Motel. 30 N 1st Ave 920-743-5571.
Literacy Door County is having their Scrabble Tournament in the other half of the room from 9-1. It is our hope that people will attend the tournament, stay for drinks or a meal, and come back to buy lots of books.
Tables are either 6-8 feet and covered. If you have your own coverings, feelfree to bring them. Also any decorations you wish to display.
Posters are going up and we are also able to have a hand out at the bar, restaurant, and in the rooms promoting this event.
What do I need from you?
RSVP if you haven’t confirmed, by Oct. 23rd.
Let me know how many book titles you have, also genre and age level if appropriate.
Some authors have activities or non book items for sale. Please let me know if you have an activity planned. Also, I need to know if you will need electricity.
Please let me know if you have someone you want to be next to. Authors with 1-6 titles will be sharing a table with 1 other author. The exception is if you have an interactive activity planned.
For the day of the fair, please provide the sheet enclosed with this letter completely filled out. This will help us with bookkeeping.
I am in need of a few volunteers the day of the Book Fair. These people will help with sales, the silent auction tables, directing people to booths and building facilities. They will also be helpful with the coffee and water stand, bathroom breaks, and possibly a candy stand for raising extra funds. If we have stronger backs, they could be used to help authors bring books in and out of the building.
We have a cart and dolly to help with bringing books in and out. Because we hope to have lots of shoppers and a full hotel, please unload by the door and then move your vehicle further away from the entrances.
If you know someone who wants to attend, feel free to invite them. If there is still room, we welcome them.
Please bring business cards and any other handout materials you have.
Spread the word!
Despite the original location snafu, this Book Fair is shaping up to be a fantastic event. There are authors coming from all over the country. Not only are the shoppers going to be exposed to many new authors, you will have a chance to meet and greet authors as well.
There are authors I have already regrets from. Many are sending signed books and more to use for the auction. If you would like to send something, please send in by October 23rd.
Last, but definitely not least, David and I want this to be a fun and profitable event not just for you as authors, but a great fundraiser for Literacy Door County. If all goes well, this may become an annual event.
Thank you and see you on November 4th.
