The laboratory C&GIFT focuses on the assessment of ecological and genetic fitness, adaptation, and resilience of forest trees endemic to the Indo-Myanmar biodiversity hotspot region.
The laboratory is currently working for ex-situ conservation and genecological assessment of the 'state tree of Manipur'; Phoebe hainesiana Brandis synonym P. goalparensis distributed over North-East India.
The research work is sponsored by the State Forest Development Agency (State Forest Department, Government of Manipur), Manipur, India, University Grant Commission (UGC), New Delhi India, and DST- Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), New Delhi India.
