A winter internship program funded by DST-SERB Accelerate Vigyan /Vritika Scheme was started with eleven interns from different organizations in the country.
March 2023:
Laboratory facilitated with genomic analysis equipment was inaugurated on the occasion of the International Day of Forests by the honorable VC, Manipur University.
December 2022:
Devajit successfully gets registered as a full-time Ph.D. scholar under the supervision of Dr. Vivek at the University.
Laboratory works for the estimation of leaf morphology and wood characteristics have been carried out by the team.
Kho. Tamiza Mangang joined the laboratory as an intern to work on the SERB-funded project.
November 2022:
The team headed by Neekee conducted the sampling tour in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh for the expedition of Phoebe populations.
Rio and Phung joined the laboratory as an intern for a month.
September 2022:
A clonal propagation trial was conducted by Devajit and Neekee through stem cuttings of Phoebe trees in the forest nursery.
August 2022:
The Team conducted a sampling tour in Noney forest division for to collect data along with leaves and wood samples of Phoebe population.
July 2022:
Team Lab_C&GIFT visited the industrial set-up of manufacturing bio briquettes from plant wastes in Kakching, Manipur.
The Forest Nursery was maintained and cleaned by the team.
June 2022:
An eight-day training was facilitated to the research scholars of the Laboratory for Conservation & Genetic Improvement of Forest Trees, Department of Forestry & Environmental Science, Manipur University by Dr H. Nanaocha Sharma, Scientist-E, Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development, on skill related to plant DNA extraction, amplification and sequencing.
May 2022:
Ms. Longjam Nevidita Chanu, Mr. Thangminlun Baite, and Mr. Yengkhom Devajit Singh joined the laboratory as Pre Ph.D. candidate for Pre-Ph.D. Course work.
April 2022:
Ms. Neekee Thangjam joined the laboratory as a Junior Reseach Fellow in the SERB-Funded project.
March 2022:

January 2022:
The laboratory received approval of fund support to develop a small-scale nursery by the Soil and Water Conservation Division-I, State Forest Department, Government of Manipur, under 'Sub- Mission on Agroforestry (SMAF).
November 2021:
Dr. Vivek Vaishnav is awarded a START-UP GRANT by DST-SERB (Department of Science and Technology - Science and Engineering Research Board) for the project 'Assessment of genecological and reproductive fitness of Phoebe hainesiana Brandis (Bonsum tree) populations of Indo-Burma regions in India, on the threat of projected climate change'.
September 2021:
Dr. Vivek Vaishnav is awarded a UGC-Start-up grant for the project 'Study on association genetics of growth, wood , and water-use efficiency-related traits in Indian teak (Tectona grandis L. f.) to generate drought-resilient planting stock'.
