It is an honor and privilege to assist people and their families with pivotal times in their lives: when they are born, come of age, publicly commit themselves to another, and when they die. I have celebrated and solemnized such moments for many years.
Officiating -- or, being present
I am authorized by the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of La Crosse, Wis., to officiate at weddings, unions, and other rites of passage. I have done so in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Years of preparation for ministry have helped me develop a presence and leadership style that people appreciate.
I provide a supportive, calming presence for you and your families. I also try to incorporate your personal histories, current events, humor, and reverence into the serious business of solemnizing your ceremony.
Wedding Fees:
$450 for preparation and officiating (plus mileage if over an hour away)
$ 50 for rehearsal
$ 35 for PREPARE/ENRICH inventory
Respecting relationships
I will ask if you belong to a religious congregation and if you have contacted your own religious leader. The last thing I want to do is come between you and your own faith leader. If there is no conflict, I will check my calendar to see if I am available on your chosen date.
I believe that loving relationships between consenting adults are valid regardless of gender expression or sexual orientation. I am happy to assist with weddings for all.
Getting to know one another
If I am available on the chosen date, I will send you information and forms to complete. These will give you a better sense of the services I can provide and give me a better sense of your needs. I ask my wedding couples to take part in a premarital inventory called PREPARE/ENRICH. This is a set of online surveys, which will serve as the basis for conversations you will want to have prior to marriage. The cost of this service is $35 per couple, and the results are pretty enlightening.
I like to meet face to face a few times during the months prior to a ceremony. This gives us a chance to answer questions, examine issues, and plan the observance.
Planning a meaningful ceremony
When we meet, I will lay out some of the important elements of a ceremony. Together we will identify themes and particular elements that will create the most meaningful ceremony for you. If the group participating is large — or if the observance is complex, contains unusual elements, or will be held in an unusual location — I will recommend a rehearsal. I am happy to help with logistics or details however I can.
