What Does a Scientist Look Like

Women in Sciene is co-hosting a seminar and a panel discussion with CHaSE with a special focus on entrepreneurship! CHaSE is a student-organised job fair at Karolinska Institutet. The fair includes multiple workshops and seminars, and companies will be at site and they are looking forward meeting you! Take this opportunity to network with company representatives and gain new knowledge at the CHaSE events. The fair and events are open for everybody. You can read more about the fair at their website and Facebook page, where you also sign up for their workshops and can upload your CV.

We are bringing our seminar series "What Does a Scientist Look Like" to CHaSE and you are all welcome. Our seminar aims to bring female scientists to the spotlight and challenge the traditional view of a scientist. For this event, we have two very special guests: Aline de Santo Izabel and Marina Nart. Aline is a Brazilian scientist and founder of Symbiotic Kitchen and is a researcher within Digital Health and Personalized Nutrition at the Swedish startup Lifesum. Marina is an Italian scientist and founder of Beyond2030 where she works as a process facilitator and sustainability scientist that consults companies on the UN Agenda 2030. Both women will have a short presentation and a panel discussion will follow where you can ask all of your entrepreneurial questions.

No need to register for this event, come as you are! You will find the event information below and at the CHaSE website and Facebook page.

Seminars on Data Management Plans

Welcome to this seminar with Ulf Jakobsson from the Swedish National Data Service on how to write and make use of Data Management Plan in your research. The aim of a Data Management Plan (DMP) is to plan the life cycle of data in a research project. It is a tool that by outlining how data will be generated, collected, documented, shared and preserved supports the researcher in effective data handling.A number of research funding bodies already have recommendations and, in some cases (Swedish Research Council, Formas, Horizon2020 and ERC) also requirements, for DMPs.

Survey on starting grants

Getting an independent research position in Sweden.

Are you working towards an independent career in academia? Are you applying for faculty positions and start up grants or are you about to? Do you already hold an independent position in Academia and have some thoughts on how to improve the transition from postdoc to principal investigator?

If you replied yes to any of these questions, we kindly ask you to take 10-13 minutes of your time to answer this survey.

https://survey.ki.se/Survey/16403

Indeed, transitioning from a postdoctoral position to academic independence requires funds, institutional support, and equal opportunities. However, are these conditions and resources sufficiently available? Here, we aim to assemble your perspectives (if you are working towards independence) and experiences (if you have already reached independence) of what is needed to start an independent line of research in a Swedish academic setting.

These data will be used to write a report to share with the researcher community, funders and stakeholders. The Swedish Research Council (VR, Vetenskapsrådet) has recently evaluated the call, as international postdocs and KIPA representatives have met with VR representatives to discuss how career support and pathways for postdocs could develop in the future. Thus, it is important that this survey leads to firm results.

We aim to collect the opinions of a broad and diverse range of national and international academics in all fields (e.g., life sciences, humanities, engineering) in their postdoc or faculty career stage from all Swedish academic institutions. All responders will remain anonymous.

This survey is prepared by the Karolinska Institutet Postdoc Association (KIPA. https://ki.se/en/staff/ki-postdoc-association) and distributed by SNPA (Swedish Network of Postdoc Associations).
