The Lab Orchestra aims first to bring exciting programs of music that is rarely heard to the UT campus. Therefore, the Lab Orchestra is a strong proponent of new music and especially music of living composers.

The Lab Orchestra also operates on a limited yet demanding rehearsal schedule, thus providing a semi-professional ensemble experience for its players.

The University of Texas Lab Orchestra was formed in 2016 by co-founders Jacob Schnitzer and Nicholas Perry Clark. The UT Lab Orchestra is an official ensemble of the University of Texas Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music and is the only fully-student-run ensemble at BSoM.
