Utkarsh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Sciences at Carleton University. He is a statistician and data scientist who works in health outcomes and precision medicine, clinical trials, biomarkers, and statistical/machine learning. Utkarsh completed his doctoral studies in Statistics at the University of Guelph in 2014 with a postdoctoral fellowship in bioinformatics at McMaster University.
Utkarsh's work in health outcomes is on understanding phenotypic and treatment response variability in two progressive diseases: Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy (DMD and BMD). His work in clustering involves developing novel mixture models with applications in model-based clustering and classification while his work in phylogenetics involves developing novel algorithms with applications in bioinformatics. Currently, his research is supported by Foundation to Eradicate Duchenne and National Institutes of Health (National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases [NIAMS]).
