Our name “UThere?” is to symbolize the simple phrase that initiates that one conversation about mental health, showing care, trust, and empathy. We want to help acknowledge that mental health is important by not only spreading our knowledge to friends and family, but also to communities and around the world!
To better spread awareness about mental health, education about the risk & protective factors are necessary.
Our main risk factors of mental health are anxiety and low self-esteem. UThere focuses on these causes to educate about the types of anxiety that many students and young adults suffer through as well as the levels of self-esteem that affect one's mood and behavior.
Our main protective factors of mental health is boosting self-esteem. UThere focuses on self-esteem to implement better connections for everyone to gain an empathetic environment for those who are feeling down or going through a toll on their mental health.
According to Mind (2022), Self-esteem is defined as "how we value and perceive ourselves." With boosting self-esteem, our mission is to encourage others to see themselves in a more positive outlook, increasing mood levels and improving their mental health.
Another one of our main protective factors is engagement with communities. We decided to utilize our social media to our best ability by interviewing students, making informative post to share internationally, and making promotional videos with other students!
These methods connects us with the community around us and allows us to share this out to the general public, raising awareness and promoting mental health at our school and interacting with students who aren't informed of the stigma against mental health.
