Statement on the Policies of the Trump Administration

It has become obvious to the Leadership Council of Úthellingu Kindred that fascism has made its return to American politics. President Donald Trump, since his inauguration, has abused the power of the executive in an attempt to override the legislature, the courts, and the basic protections afforded to all people in the United States by the Constitution. By his actions he has threatened the lives and livelihoods of marginalized persons in an attempt to remove them from society and/or force them into hiding. These actions have been accompanied by the collaboration of major American corporations, which have begun to censor progressive and leftist opinions. This consolidation of political and corporate power under the direction of one man is the first overt step towards a fascist autocracy. 

The republic is vulnerable, and though it is not the first time this has happened, it is our time. It is the belief of this Council to stand in accordance with Hávamál 127; that it is our duty to call out evil where we see evil, and to show evil no peace. We believe in the strength of diversity, in equality, in universal human rights, and in democracy. It is our mission to support and defend those in our kindred and our community who are threatened by this ideology of hate. 

If you or someone you know is threatened, we will do what we can to help. If you support the policies being enacted by this president, we implore you to examine the reasons why, and to weigh those reasons against the suffering of your neighbors. If you are concerned that this will exclude you from the kindred, we encourage you to reach out to us and have a conversation.
