Membership Returns

For Yule this year, four of our five Leadership Council members were able to celebrate together with laughter, food, ritual and song. To begin the festivities, we performed the Oathing Rite as outlined in the kindred charter to formally oath ourselves as members of Úthellingu Kindred. Kurt Hohmann, Cheyenne Rainford, Ryan Kern, and myself all took the oath to serve and support the Kindred and witnessed the oaths of the others. (Ev Lokadottr intended to oath, but could not attend.) A new Oathing Ring was made for this event, and each new member wrote their name on a ribbon and tied it into the web that criss-crosses the ring, signifying our effect on the wyrd of the Kindred. This event serves to restart the membership of Úthellingu Kindred that has been unofficial since the pandemic.
What is Membership?
The membership of Úthellingu Kindred is called the Innangard (“inner-yard”) and forms the body of the kindred. Members have the right to vote on issues and the elections of leadership and the right to attend Kindred events not open to the public, such as rituals (Non-members may attend private events, but only by invitation.) Members also vote on the inclusion of aspiring members, and thus maintain the frithful bonds of community. Persons who have been active in the Kindred for a year may be nominated for membership.
Membership does come with certain responsibilities in order to maintain it. Members are expected to attend at least 3 events per year or to notify the Leadership Council that they wish to go on hiatus. Membership can be revoked by the Innangard if members go out of contact, but former members in good standing may rejoin at a later date without a probationary period. There are other reasons a membership may be revoked, and they are outlined in Article III of the Kindred Charter. Though the Leadership Council has taken an oath to begin their official membership, oaths are optional and not required for membership.
If you are interested in becoming a new member, or if you were a member before and want to be reinstated, please contact a Council member or email uthellingu@gmail.com. We hope to see our membership grow and thrive.
