DiRP is the only group at UT Austin focusing on undergraduate computer science research. To continue our mission, we are looking for sponsors and grants. We would be grateful to groups to sponsor us.
The Directed reading program is an organization that helps students explore different areas of computer science research in reading/project groups + speaker events. It is entirely student-led, being run by undergraduate and graduate mentors.
We have had over 80 students a semester for 3 years, including groups who submitted to major conferences. Many students went on to do research at UT Austin.
We focus on a small group size, allowing more inclusivity and discussion.
Unlike FRI, which only contains 3 CS streams, we have research in many other areas of computer science.
Previously, our mentors were just volunteers who didn't get paid despite spending many hours helping mentees.
Precedence: Directed Reading Programs at other universities, including Chicago, MIT, and UIUC, receive funding that helps increase research.
The money you provide would give resources necessary for mentor's to run more effective streams and to compensate them for their time
Additionally, we will be able to provide resources to mentees to increase involvement and allow more exciting research and projects.
If you are interested in sponsoring us, please reach out to us at utcs.dirp@gmail.com, or contact Saloni Modi on discord (@salonely). Thank you.
