1. Participants may consist of groups from one to five students.
2. Students will perform a live musical number with instrumental accompaniment (instruments must be brought by students). Song lyrics must be memorized.
3. All songs must be in Portuguese with any lyrics memorized. Lyrics that are obscene, explicit, violent, or with messages that marginalize certain groups are not acceptable.
4. Each participant/group will have a scheduled time to perform, and will forfeit their opportunity if they are not present when their name is called. A schedule of performance times will be emailed to the teacher a few days prior to the event.
5. If desired, students may wear an appropriate (modest, non-revealing) costume. Any physical movements during the performance should also be appropriate. Props are not allowed, with the exception of an optional musical instrument that students may use to accompany their performance.
6. The student(s) will take the stage. Then, before performing, one student will take approximately 20 seconds to state the following information in Portuguese:
· students' names and school
· name of the song
· brief information about the song (composer, performer, why they chose it, etc.)
7. If the performance exceeds three minutes, judges may stop them and thank them.
8. Students will be judged on:
o content (originality and appropriateness of music, costume and gestures)
o musical presentation (skill and expressiveness of performance, projection, harmony and ensemble if appropriate)
o fluency (absence of hesitations)
o adherence to time limit
Extra credit will be given for original compositions.
9. The best performers, as assessed by the judges, will be invited to perform at the awards ceremony.
This event is open to the public.
Note: In the signup sheet for this event, please provide the name of the song and the roles of group members (singers, accompanists, instruments).
