Awards

Certificates: All students will receive a certificate of participation with a rating of Superior, Excelente, Muito bom or Bom. Judging will be done by Portuguese faculty from various universities and by volunteer Portuguese students from the University of Utah.

Overall school awards: A trophy will be awarded to all participating schools, with overall first, second, and third prizes, as well as honorable mention. In order to compensate for unequal numbers of students at different schools, these awards will be calculated by dividing the total number of Superior ratings from each school by the total number of students participating from that school.

Portuguese Bowl (Copa de Português) award: A trophy will also be awarded to the school that wins the Portuguese Bowl tournament.

While no system of judging is perfect, we expect that teachers and students will abide by the decisions of the judges. We hope that teachers don’t focus too much on winning, but instead on helping their students showcase their language skills and have a good time!
