Career talk on Legal Profession with global insights and career guidance from an esteemed expert, Mr. Shashank Garg along with release of Placement Brochure 2024-25.
The Internship and Placement Cell of the University School of Law and Legal Studies on 21st October, held a Lecture on Career Counseling in the Legal Profession and the Release of the Placement Brochure. The lecture featured Mr. Shashank Garg, a Central Government Standing Counsel, Secretary of the Arbitration Bar of India, Chair of the ICC India Arbitration Group, and a proud alumnus of USLLS, as the chief speaker. Prof. (Dr.) Queeny Pradhan, Dean of USLLS, and Prof. (Dr.) Deepshikha Agarwal, Chairperson of the Placement Cell, delivered the welcome address, emphasising the Cell’s pivotal role in bridging academia and practical legal training for students. The event was attended by students and faculty members of USLLS. It also included the unveiling of the USLLS Placement Brochure, a thorough guide for recruiters looking to hire the best talents from our Batch of 2025.
Exploring Early Challenges
Mr. Shashank delivered an inspiring speech, recounting his journey as a first-generation lawyer who faced early challenges due to a lack of connections in the legal field. However, through persistence and networking, he gained valuable opportunities, including an internship at an NGO where he met Arvind Kejriwal, a key figure in the Right to Information movement. Mr. Shashank highlighted the importance of taking every opportunity seriously, even small ones, as they are helpful in building the character of a law student. He shared practical advice on building legal careers, highlighting the significance of personalized cover letters tailored to specific roles and companies, which can help students make strong first impressions.
Delving Into Significance of Networking
In addition to offering advice on crafting cover letters, Mr. Shashank stressed the importance of networking for long-term career success. He explained that developing and maintaining professional relationships is essential in the legal profession, as connections can open doors to new opportunities.
The session followed a robust Q&A segment, where students engaged with Mr. Garg on topics ranging from specific regulatory challenges to career advice. His insights left participants with a clearer understanding of the career path required for students.
