On February 2, 2024, University School of Law and Legal Studies, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi successfully conducted a panel discussion on the topic of "Networking for Success in the Job Market". This panel discussion was graced by six influential speakers and educators from US Law Schools including University of Minnesota, Indiana University, Boston University School of Law amongst others.
The presentation started with Miss Adriana Aguena, Asst. Director, Graduate and International Programs at McGeorge School of Law and Miss Maureen Tracy Leo, Director, International and Graduate Programs, Boston University School of Law as they explained the impact of good communication through body language and verbal communication. Students were advised to practise firm handshakes, maintain eye contact and enunciate clear sentences during introductions.
Tips to Succeed in Interviews
Miss Kara Galvin, Director, International and Graduate Programs Law, University of Minnesota talked about creating an elevator pitch which would help students in increasing their career prospects. She interacted with the audience and made them formulate their own elevator pitch. These small introductions help in networking at meetings, job fairs, interviews, classrooms etc.
Miss Shehernaz Joshi, Asst. Dean, International and Graduate Programs Law, George Washington enlightened the gathering about informational interviews and their integral role in building or breaking job opportunities. Having a good resume with all essential elements always advances the chances of being selected. Hence, a thorough analysis of your resume should be done before sending it across. Art of Networking and its Importance
Miss Gabrielle Goodwin, Director, Graduate Legal Studies and Senior Lecturer in Law Maurer Law School, Indiana University emphasised how networking through people in the field enhances the chances of becoming successful. Students should learn more about the field by connecting with local attorneys, alumni, law firms, professional organisations, university speakers for launching their careers.
The session concluded with a robust Q&A segment, a brief question and answer session depicted the curiosity law students had about pursuing further education in the USA and other future prospects which were elaborately answered by the educators.
