All work must be completed and submitted to Google Classroom on time.
Late work will receive a maximum of half credit and will only be accepted if arrangements to do so have been made by the teacher and the student.
Assignments may only be made up for an excused absence. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain lecture notes, worksheets, and find out about missed assignments through Google Classroom and this site whenever absent.
Because this is equivalent to a college level course, students will be expected to devote more time and energy into this class compared to that of a non-AP class. Students should expect the work and tests in this class to be longer and more difficult. All work must be completed and turned in on time to receive credit.
All students in this class are expected to take the AP test, but if you choose not to, you will be assigned a project due the day of the test.
Grades for this course will be based on the following:
Reading quizzes = 30%
Assessments = 35%
Multiple Choice Quizzes/Tests, Writing
Homework/class work = 15%
Engagement = 20%
90-100 A
80-89 B
65-79 C
55-65 D
54 and below F
If a student earns an A-G eligible grade (C- or better) and also earns a passing score on the AP Exam (3, 4, or 5) the student’s grade will be changed for both semesters accordingly. For example a student earning a B- would have the grade changed to a B (AP score of 3), B+ (AP score of 4), or A- (AP score of 5, a full grade increase).
Student’s progress can be monitored on the school’s website through Homelink (grades).
Engagement in this course is a MUST as it constitutes 20% of a student’s grade.
Students will be expected to verbally contribute to whole class AND small group discussions as well as provide and explain opinions.
Students are expected to be engaged during class on a daily/weekly basis, whether it is through discussion and/or presentations.
All students start with full credit for engagement. Actions that prevent a student from being actively engaged in the class, such as distracting behavior, talking out of turn, and using cell phones (unless related to an assignment), will negatively impact students’ engagement scores.
Honesty is the best policy. Cheating will not be tolerated. Anyone caught cheating will receive an automatic “F” for the assignment, a phone call home, and a referral to the administration. Having cell phones or other electronic devices out during a quiz or test is also considered cheating. Cheating on a test or quiz will also result in a zero and a referral. Cheating also includes copying homework from either the internet or other students and will result in a zero for the assignment.
