Senator Carlsson: 1,817 Delegates
Richard Nixon was the Republican Nominee, facing off against Baker, the VP of the United States. With a 5.3% victory in the Popular Vote, and a win in the Electoral College, Baker won the Presidency of the United States in the 2028 General Election, winning 319-219
President Baker decided not to run for re-election, allowing Vice President LI Dem to run. Vice President LI Dem wins the Democratic Nomination after beating Senator Alamkan. The Vice President had a tough battle to win the nomination after some voters believed that the Baker Administration's VP wouldn't fair well in the general election.
Senator Left Right had no opponent, and won the 2032 Republican Primary. A fraudulent write-in campaign did occur though.
The Left Right campaign focused heavily on the economy, vowing to end the Baker Budget Crisis, after the Baker Administration left the government unfunded for 4 years. LI Dem campaign vowed to keep the work of Baker up while allowing for historic investments in high speed rail, and supporting union workers. Left Right would win barely in Pennsylvania by 0.1% of the vote, in a close 270-268 Electoral College win.
The Democratic Primary of 2036 consisted of many strong candidates, there was Governor Bill Clinton of Hawaii, Senator of Arizona, Vice President to Baker and 2032 nominee LI Dem, as well as rising star Charlotte Niejmand. LI and Niejmand ran as anti-establishment candidates, posing themselves as formidable opponents to the frontrunner Clinton, but it would all be for naught as Clinton would gain the delegates required for the nomination.
Incumbent President Left Right and his running mate Richard Nixon ran unopposed in the 2036 Primary as they ran for reelection together
The 2036 Election had incumbent President Left Right face off against Hawaii's Governor Bill Clinton, Left Right had vowed to keep up the good work the administration had done as well as keep advancing in the world of space. Governor Bill pushed for more liberal policies as he looked to beat Left Right. The incumbent President would end up winning holding North Carolina and Pennsylavania as he flipped Wisconsin, Minnesota, Arizona, and New Hampshire.
The 2040 Democratic Presidential Primary had many stars including former President and Rhode Island Senator Charlie Baker, Senator of North Carolina Charlotte Niejmand, Virginia Senator Jack Kennedy, and Minnesota Governor Donald Trump. These candidates fought hard but it ended up being former President Baker who ended up winning the nomination, he chose Senator Niejmand of North Carolina as his running mate as he looked to bring the Presidency back for the Democrats
After 8 years of Left Right the Republican Party looked toward a successor. In a hard fought primary including Indiana Senator and Senate Minority Leader Ronald Reagan, Senator Bob Dole of Wyoming, and Governor JR of New Jersey. Ronald Reagan emerged the victor, and chose Mitt Romney to be his running mate in the pivotal 2040 election.
The 2040 election saw Democratic nominee and former President Charlie Baker take on Republican nominee and Senate Minority Leader Ronald Reagan, Baker ran on the strong points of his earlier administration as he looked to continue the work he did in his first administration. Meanwhile Ronald Reagan looked elseward as he planned to continue the work of the Left Right administration in space as well as working to fight against the national debt. Election night was chaotic, and it was close as Baker held small leads in the swing states of Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New Hampshire but Reagan still had a strong chance as he was only slightly behind. As the night went on it stayed neck and neck, the first swing states to fall were New Jersey and New Hampshire going to Baker as Reagan held a narrow lead in Pennsylvania and Baker held small leads in other swing states. The next state to fall was Michigan called for Baker being the 3rd time it had been won by the Democrats in a row. The night rolled into the morning as Baker was projected victory in Wisconsin, North Carolina, Georgia, and later Pennsylvania, winning him the election.
The 2044 Democratic Primary was messy, with incumbent President Charlie Baker unable to run, his Vice President, Charlotte Niejmand took to running, her primary opponent in the primary was Alaska Senator and Progressive Party member Lisa Murkowski. Niejmand ended up the winner of the primary with 55% of the vote to Murkowskis 45% and Niejmand would select Puerto Rico Senator Ivy as her running mate...but the issues wouldn't stop at the primary.
After a tough 2040 election loss, the Republican Party searched for a challenger to Vice President Niejmand, the primary was fought out by Reagan's Vice President pick Mitt Romney, Senator Bob Dole, and Governor JR. After Romney decided to drop out it was down to Dole and JR, it was neck and neck throughout the primary but Dole ended up the victor by just 2 votes. Dole would select his primary opponent, JR as his running mate.
The 2044 Presidential Election saw Vice President Niejmand face off against relatively unknown Senator Bob Dole of Maryland. Early in the campaign things started off tough for the Niejmand campaign as she struggled to gain support from a fractured party between members of the Progressives and Democrats leading to a rough showing in the polls in the rust belt. As election night came both campaigns prepared themselves for a showdown. Election night began as many states were too early to call including Georgia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New Hampshire. Niejmand held early leads in all as the night began, but soon things would crash. The first state to fall was Wisconsin being called for Bob Dole, then it was Pennsylvania, then it was Michigan, and finally Arizona being called for Bob Dole as he won the election. Dole narrowly won the popular vote by just 2.2 points. Niejmand held onto New Jersey, New Hampshire, and Georgia but it wasnt enough with Dole's popularity in the rust belt as he would be elected the next President of the United States.
The 2048 Democratic Primary featured plenty of stars in the party, including former Senate Minority Leader Eliza Hamilton-Schuyler, former Republican and 2040 Vice Presidenital nominee Mitt Romney, 2044 Democratic Presidential Nominee Charlotte Niejmand, Virginia Governor Jack Kennedy, and newcomer Barack Obama from Illinois. Kennedy dropped out quickly and 2048 favorite Mitt Romney dropped out days before the nominee would be decided. It came down to Schuyler, Niejmand, and Obama, and after a lengthly process Schuyler would come out on top, she would choose Arizona Governor Marilyn Wells as her running mate.
Coming off of 4 years of Bob Dole, his Vice President, JR Franklin took to running as he ran mostly unopposed, only having political newcomer Tim Ridge running against him. He would run away with the primary and would select Maine Senator Richard M Nixon as his running mate.
The 2048 Presidential Election pitted Vice President JR Franklin against Democratic challenger Eliza Hamilton-Schuyler. The campaigns started off quick as the Hamilton campaign targetted Arizona, looking to win it for the first time LI Dem did in 2032, they also targetted Georgia which had narrowly voted for Niejmand in 2044 as well as Pennsylvania which voted overwhelmingly for Dole. The Franklin campaign targetted the rust belt early on, particularly Pennsylvania as well is going in on Georgia. As election night came both campaigns braced for a long night, but it ended up being very quick, Franklin struggled to turn out strong parts of his base, some of which even voting for Hamilton as she won many states at poll closing including swing states such as Pennsylvania, Georgia, Gov. Wells home state of Arizona and Michigan. This was the most lopsided election in over 50 years, Hamilton flipped 20 states, the most since Bill Clinton in 1992, Mississippi and South Carolina, which narrowly voted for Hamilton flipped for the first time since 1976.
With President Hamilton-Schuyler declining to run for office, it was an open primary with many strong candidates, there was Pennsylvania Senator and former Senate Majority Leader Empress, Former Vice President and 2032 Democratic Nominee LI Dem, Governor Donald Trump of Minnesota, and respected Senator and Secretary of Agriculture Edward Wallace. LI Dem was the expected winner, leading early on in the primary, but dropped out leaving the field wide open. Wallace cross endorsed with Empress, giving her what seemed to be an advantage, but as the time came for the Democratic National Convention, both Trump and Empress had the same amount of delegates, being deadlocked. After a lengthy process at convention, Empress was deemed the winner and selected Iowa Senator and 2032 Vice Presidential Nominee Alexander Carlsson as her running mate.
The 2052 Republican Primary had the GOP reeling from a humiliating loss in 2048 after which JR Franklin left politics. The GOP had a seemingly open primary of which 2 candidates emerged, Senator Robert Smith of Nebraska, a newer face to the scene ran for President as he challenged Governor of Ohio and 2040 nominee Ronald Reagan. Smith fought hard, emerging with around 30% of the vote in the primary, but Reagan would emerge victorious and he would select Wisconsin Governor Mukuro Ikusaba as his running mate.
The 2052 Presidential Election pitted Democratic nominee Empress of Appalachia against Republican nominee Ronald Reagan. The campaigns both targeted the crucial swing states of Arizona and Georgia early in the campaign as possible tipping points, Reagan was popular in Georgia, while Empress in Arizona, Reagan moved to targeting Virginia, a state that hadn't been won by the Republican party since 2004, as well as former Republican stronghold Alaska. Empress' campaign seeing their falling numbers in Georgia pivoted to protecting Virginia and targetting Alaska, albeit Reagan was popular in both. Empress' campaign made a last ditch effort in the state of Iowa late in the campaign, gaining a lot of support, as she took the lead in the polls in Iowa heading into Election Day. As Election Day came, Empress led early with a 4.6% popular vote lead, leading in Arizona, Iowa, Virginia, and Alaska. Reagan rallied late, taking the lead in all as well as making a surprising upsets in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York. This was the first time a Republican had won Georgia since Left Right in 2036, and the first time a Republican won had won New York since 1984.
After a tough loss in 2052, many Democrats looked at an opprotunity to run in 2056, the field was led by Ohio Senator Mike Johnson, Senate Majority Leader and Senator of Delaware Al Gore and Governor Diana of Montana. Campaigning started early as both Gore and Johnson emerged as frontrunners, later in the race Governor Diana joined, and later a very surprising choice Governor and former President Eliza Hamilton-Schuyler. Eliza would drop out soon after, along with Al Gore citing personal issues. Johnson would be the sole frontrunner as he could quickly gather the delegates needed to win the nomination. He would select Florida Senator John Glenn as his running mate.
The Republican Primary in 2056 was the most open it had been in years, sitting President Reagan and Vice President Ikusaba had declined to run, as such many candidates declared early, including New Jersey Senator John Kerry, Kansas Senator Nate Morris, Nebraska Senator and Secretary of the Treasury Robert Smith, Pennsylvania Governor Joe Biden, and Alaska Senator Mary Peltola. The field would quickly shorten though as Smith, Biden, and Peltola all endorsed Kerry leaving just Kerry and Morris. Kerry would end up winning the primary with 71% of the delegates defeating Morris. He would end up selecting sitting Vice President Mukuro Ikusaba as his running mate.
The 2056 Presidential Election pitted Ohio Senator Mike Johnson against New Jersey Senator John "Rumper" Kerry. Early both campaigns targetted the surprising swing states of New York and Florida, with internal polling showing the race was close in both, Rumper would emerge as the favorite in New York while Johnson led slightly in Florida. The Johnson campaign would also make short stops to states like Virginia and Nevada as they looked to sure up support across the country. Election Night kicked off and Rumper led early in key states such as New York, Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Virginia, Johnson cut at the lead as the night went on, gaining a small lead in Ohio and Virginia, but still trailing in the ever crucial New York and Florida. The late push would be all for naught as Rumper would win Pennsylvania, giving him the election. This election would be the closest one since 2044 with less than 3 points deciding the popular vote. It would also be historical as for the first time in history Republicans won the Presidency without the state of Ohio, this would also mark the first time since 2036 where a party had won the Presidency in back to back elections.
