Dr. Mallory Thompson began her six-year stint at USF in the fall of 1989. She conducted both the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band (formerly Wind Ensemble 2). During her time at USF, she established a strong graduate conducting studio and began a conducting symposium in 1995, with Jerry Junkin serving as the guest clinician. Thompson’s focus was on bringing directors to USF to show them what the program could offer. Under her direction, the bands stopped touring. In the spring of 1995, Dr. Thompson accepted a position at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and after a successful search, USF hired Dr. William Wiedrich.
