This website was developed with substantial prior research completed by Dr. Logan Sorey, DMA during his time as a masters student at USF. Dr. Sorey's document, The University of South Florida Bands - 60 Years of Musical Excellence provided a plethora of knowledge pertaining to the history of the USF Band program, and served as a jumping point for this project.
The number of "giants" in our profession who have come through the USF Band program, whether as a band director (seasoned or in the beginning of their careers), or student (undergraduate and/or graduate), builds for a very storied history not widely known. After discussion between Daniel Greenwood and Dr. Matthew McCutchen, it was agreed that the history of the USF Bands was a story that needed to be told to a wider audience.
After further research was completed by Daniel Greenwood to expand on Dr. Sorey's initial research and to bring the band's story up to the now-present time, the contents of the updated document have been published through the various pages found on this site.
This website is to serve as both a monument to the band's 66 years of history, while also serving as a living document, with the hopes of it continuously being expanded upon in the years to come.
