When and where are the matches?
Matches in the current season are shown on the 2025-2026 page on this website.
All matches and games take place online at Chess.com. You play your opponent two games simultaneously, one with white pieces and one with black pieces. Participants make one move every three days.
How do I join the league and play matches?
Chess players can join a state team participating in one of the USTCL divisions.
Go to the team where you live (or or have the closest relationship to) and join it.
Then you can play in the matches of this division for your state. For example, if you are from Minnesota, click on Minnesota in the list below, and ask to join. If you are not already a member of Chess.com you will need to sign up first.
The administrators for your state team will notify you about matches monthly during the USTCL season. You just show up and play!

What if my state does not have a team?
Unfortunately, not every state has an active team. This applies to states as big as Texas or Florida. So the suggestion would be to try to revive those groups or if the current leadership of the dormant teams is unwilling to found a new group and get going.
If you need help in reviving a state team, please contact us.
If you don't see your state on the above lists, they may still have a team that's not currently part of the league. See the list of active state clubs below.
If you would like your state to join the league, first join your state club and then let the admins know you're interested!
