The US Team Chess League (USTCL) is the online chess competition among teams representing USA states and territories and Canadian provinces. The league was created in 2010 on the Chess.com platform by administrators @Sclasclemski and @Dietmar.   The USTCL page at Chess.com provides additional information. and a forum for questions and answers.

In the first season only ten teams participated in a round-robin tournament and Washington prevailed.  The league has steadily grown to include more US states, US territories and Canadian provinces. This season 39 teams competed in 4 divisions. Washington has claimed the overall champion team title six times, followed by New Jersey with five national titles. Colorado (2019), Ontario (2020) and Arizona (2024) also won the national title.

Smaller and newer teams have enjoyed competition in lower divisions. At the end of every season the top two teams from each division move up, and the bottom two teams move down.

The league is managed by a team of volunteer administrators.  In recent seasons Chess.com members @jcohen42 and @ImperfectAge have managed the league. Each state has its own team administrator, captain and/or manager, who sets up matches and recruits players.  Matches begin on the 14th of each month from July through March. Final results are announced at the end of the year, when all games are completed.

The USTCL has no affiliation with the US Chess League (USCL), which ran high-level matches with masters and chess professionals from 2005-2015 on the platform of the Internet Chess Club (chessclub.com).
