Workshop participants, organizers and the broader US and Japan networking research communities were saddened by the untimely passing earlier this year of our colleague Prof. Malathi Veeraraghavan. An active community leader forging successful international research collaborations, Malathi will be greatly missed.

Tomohiro Otani is an executive director of KDDI Research, Inc.and responsible for R&D activities related with beyond 5G networking technologies, connected car, and IoT platform from 2016. Prior to that, he was a general manager of Operation Support System Development Department of Operations Sector in KDDI Corporation and responsible for developing the operation supporting systems (OSS) for fixed and mobile networks. He is a board of directors in Automotive Edge Computing Consortium (AECC). He has been a member of the technical programming committee of international technical conferences and was a co-chair of TPC of MPLS2007 and iPOP2017. He is one of authors of IETF RFCs (3471, 5146, 6825, 7025).
Arvind Krishnamurthy is Short-Dooley Professor in the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering. His research interests span all aspects of building effective and robust computer systems, in the context of both data centers and Internet-scale systems. More recently, his research has focussed on programmable networks and systems for machine learning. He is past program chair of ACM SIGCOMM and Usenix NSDI, serves on their technical steering committees, is the Vice President of Usenix, and is on the board of trustees for ICSI.
