When trying to get a % can you think of what the fraction is first? If you can think of the fraction then we can use our equivalent fractions to get the denominator to the number 100. And what are % out of??.....You got it, 100.
Look at the top picture thinking of equivalence-------------->
So 3/10 becomes 30/100. Now, because we have it over 100 it's easier. If you scored 30 out of 100 in a test you would have 30%!
If you ate 30 out of 100 sweets you'd have eaten......yep....30%.
This is very similar, just one extra step using the most important rule in your Maths this year - Place Value.
Look at this chart to remind yourself-------------->
So if we know our place value we can convert from a decimal to a fraction and then we use our equivalence like in step one above to make it easy to change to a %.
0.3 = 3 tenths so that's 3/10
3/10 as an equivalent fraction over 100 is ....30/100.
As a percentage this is 30%!
You might be able to do this in one step or you might take all of the steps. Use what works for you.
