Week 4--Tuesday 5th May
Read the interesting facts from page 212 to 215, about how human interest in flying led to the systems of travel that we had today. The story activities can be found on pages 216 and 217.
If you are unsure about how many activities to complete in one week, you could split them up day to day, for example:
Day 1: Read and complete activities A and B.
Day 2: Reread and complete C and D.
Day 3: Reread and complete E and F.
Day 4: Complete G .
There are two extra interactive activities linked to the story here - Classroom activity and Vocabulary Bank. You can click on this link to access these activities.
We are now on our final week of focusing on the Narrative Writing genre. Maybe this week you could create a narrative writing story using His First Flight or Strange Flying Machines as a stimulus.
Feel free to email your teacher with any pictures of your completed writing to be displayed on our Fifth Class Learning Space!
We have already looked at some examples of narrative writing in school and we have also written some of our own narrative pieces. We will be revisiting this genre again over the next few weeks.
The purpose of narratives is to tell a story. They can teach the reader a moral or a lesson. They can be both informative and entertaining. Narratives can be written in many forms, for example: myths, fairy tales, fables, parables, science fictions, adventure, historical, romance, mystery, horror, humorous and fantasy stories.
If you feel like writing your own narrative piece there are some sentence starter ideas and some topic ideas. Feel free to use your imagination to come up with your own topics! There is also a checklist to help you to remember the steps that need to be included.
You could draw some pictures to go with your story and be the illustrator and the author! Maybe you would like to share your finished pieces with your siblings or your parents.
Here are some story writing prompts to help give you ideas for a variety of topics. Have you ever read a story that was quite unusual? Is it a story that you remember well?
Sometimes when we unlock our imagination it leads us to create amazing and intriguing stories. We can get lost in the writing of the story as well as giving the reader a thrilling tale!
