Some Commonly Asked Questions
Q. How does reflexology work, and can you tell if something is wrong?
A. Reflexology involves applying pressure to specific areas of the feet, which are believed to connect to different parts of the body through the nervous system, promoting internal balance and overall well-being. It’s a natural health therapy and not a substitute for medical care, so it never claims to cure or diagnose any condition.
Q. Is reflexology safe?
A. Yes, it’s a non-invasive, safe, and gentle therapy; however, reflexology isn’t recommended if you have:
an infectious foot condition
athlete's foot
osteoarthritis
pain in the feet
active gout
thrombosis or embolism
open wounds on the feet
Q. Will it hurt?
A. I use firm yet gentle pressure that doesn’t cause pain. Sometimes, I may come across a tense or tender spot on the foot, which might cause brief discomfort, but overall, reflexology is a soothing and enjoyable experience.
Q. Is it alright to be quiet or fall asleep during my treatment?
A. Yes, of course! Some of my clients enjoy a wee chat or like to know which part of the foot I’m working on and how it relates to the body. Others prefer to simply relax or drift off into a light sleep. This is lovely for me too, as I know you’re relaxed and feel safe. And if you happen to snore ~ so what? 😃 At the end of each session, we can have an assessment of the treatment, discuss how you're feeling, and go over any aftercare advice.
Q. How often should I have reflexology?
A. The frequency of your visits will depend on your reasons for coming, as well as the time and budget you can comfortably commit. Many clients come monthly to maintain their health and well-being, while others prefer to book a series of treatments and visit weekly or every other week. Regular sessions build on each other, helping you reach your goals more effectively. I’ll provide my professional advice to guide you.
Q. Is there anything I need to do to prepare for my appointment?
A. No need for a pedicure before your appointment, and there’s no need to stress about bunions or rough skin. Clean feet are always appreciated, though. If you’re coming straight from work, don’t worry, I have refreshing foot wipes ready for you.
Q. What do I need to bring?
A. If you take several different medications, please bring a list of them so I can attach it to your notes. You’re welcome to bring your own water if you like. I also recommend bringing or wearing a pair of comfy leggings, like jogging bottoms, that are elasticated at the waist and loose at the ankles. Some ladies bring pyjama bottoms to change into, which work perfectly! A toilet and wash basin are conveniently located near the therapy room.
