Students in the Con Brio class, exhibit developing skills on Bowed String instruments, often having over two years of experience.
Con Brio students refine technical and aural skills while honing ensemble playing and consolidating technique and musical skills. The class meets twice weekly for technical and skills focus session and ensemble refinement, building on complex concepts and expectations for musical growth.

Scales include two octave G & D major, and related minor scales with an emphasis on intonation, string crossings and applying finger patterns in various keys. Rhythmic exercises focus on dotted and syncopated patterns. Students practice bowing techniques, such as martele. Ensemble work includes more complex and longer pieces with independent lines, fostering a deeper understanding of musical texture and form. Musicians exhibit recognition, interpretation and application of expressive elements in the score, and are aware of their role in ensemble balance.

Bowing control techniques are further developed with specific articulation exercises. Vibrato is developed or refined. Ensemble activities emphasize musical expression, with students interpreting dynamics, tempo changes, and phrasing in more sophisticated repertoire. Musicians demonstrate the ability to recognise and apply articulation and expressive elements as they appear in repertoire or from conductor directions.
