Learning Outcomes
After viewing examples of instructional media used to enhance learning, the learner will demonstrate their understanding by selecting the best resources to use in a given lesson plan.
Focusing on specific content within a lesson, the learner will create a media product that will enhance the learner's understanding.
Prototype 1
Administration conducts weekly shout outs to faculty highlighting a chosen teacher's exemplary use of effective instructional media. Admins review lesson plans in order to select appropriate use of media. The chosen teacher is asked to write a short description to share with the faculty explaining his or her rational for choice and use of media.
Teacher Feedback
I asked for feedback from a 5th year elementary teacher. She uses a moderate amount of instructional technology in her classroom. She was just named runner up for her school’s teacher of the year. She told me that she would be embarrassed by a getting a shoutout from administration and would prefer a private comment left on her lesson plans to hold her accountable. She felt like shout outs would not motivate teachers unless they already enjoyed being recognized. She also said some teachers would not like having to write a rationale. She suggested short-term incentives such as winning actual prizes or being given an extra planning day. I asked her then what would she think would be a good, long-term incentive, and she could not think of anything.
