The original Belgrave Station was opened as ‘Monbulk’ on 18 December 1900, but was renamed Belgrave on 21 November 1904
First named "Monbulk" after a sheep run in the area. Renamed "Belgrave" on 5 Dec 1904. The name "Belgrave" was the name of an estate in Leicestershire, England. This estate was in some way connected with local Councillor E.W. Benson, in whose honour the name was chosen.
