*NOTE FOR ALL DATA: All data posted here and to other platforms (Swim Guide, this website, etc.) has been collected under Quality Control and Assurance (QA/QC) protocols implemented by Anacostia Riverkeeper and their partners. Results are meant to inform and instruct residents and visitors as to the weekly water quality of their rivers and streams.
Results for each location are considered valid for up 72 hours after they are collected or until the next rain event.
All Citizen Science Water Quality results are posted to our social media.
All results are considered valid for up to 72 hours after collection or until a rain event. Storms increase the likelihood of increased precipitation which can bring in stormwater and certain pollutants, like bacteria, into our waterways. Caution should be used around rivers and streams in the area for up to 72 hours after a rain event.
To view last year's results, please reference our 2025 Reports or access the current & historical data through the CMC Data Explorer. Thank you and see you around the Anacostia watershed!
Swim Guide is one of the most comprehensive recreational water quality sites online today. It currently provides up-to-date water quality information for select beaches and water bodies in seven different countries and 34 different states including the District of Columbia. They provide all information on their website and even have an App you can download on your smartphone.
Water Reporter is a mobile application geared towards citizens and their watershed partners with the aim of building a collaborative network of watershed stewards and protectors. The app allows citizens to create an account and report pollution on their local waterbodies, take pictures of possible contamination, or just find more information about their local watershed. For this project, Anacostia Riverkeeper will upload all project data which will be incorporated into Water Reporter's data visualization tool. Below you can find a map of all monitored sites across the Upper Anacostia. Click on any of the sites and see if it passed or failed primary contact standards for that week as well as long term trends in water quality for that site.
