C4E Undergraduate Fellowships in Ethics
2025-26
We invite applications for the C4E Undergraduate Fellows Program at the Centre for Ethics, University of Toronto, during the 2025-26 academic year.
We are looking for outstanding fourth-year undergraduate students at the University of Toronto with research interests that align with the C4E’s mission as an interdisciplinary centre aimed at advancing research and teaching in the field of ethics, broadly defined. C4E events have drawn speakers and participants from a wide range of disciplines. Please consult our website and YouTube channel to get a sense of the variety of and activities at the Centre.
C4E Undergraduate Fellows will receive a stipend of $1,000 for the academic year and will be provided with carrel space for study at the Centre for Ethics. Fellows will be expected, throughout the term of their fellowship, to regularly attend Centre events and to contribute to Centre projects and activities. In addition, C4E Undergraduate Fellows in Ethics are required to enroll in ETH401H1Y (Seminar in Ethics), Regular Stream, a year-long half-credit course. This course meets bi-weekly, on Wednesdays at 11am – 2pm.
The Race, Ethics, and Power (REP) project will continue in 2025-26 with Prof. William Paris as Project Director. Applicants who want to work specifically on that theme should indicate their interest in the cover letter, and should also check if they might also want to apply to the Algorithm Bias Project Internships.
To be eligible, students must be enrolled in a program in the University of Toronto and be entering fourth year (interpreted here to mean: have completed at least 14 FCE toward their degree by the end of the current term), and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5. Undergraduate fellows are expected to have a strong background in ethics, broadly conceived.
To apply, please submit the following materials (in a single PDF file):
A one-page document describing your interest in the Centre for Ethics;
Your most recent transcript for all undergraduate work at the University of Toronto; and
A paper you have written related to ethics, broadly defined (no more than 2500 words).
Please submit your application materials in PDF format as one file, using the naming convention “LastnameFirstname_UG_2025.” Please send complete applications to Ellen Ough, Centre Administrator, ethics@utoronto.ca
Applications due: July 30, 2025
