JOB POSTING – POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW

The University of Toronto and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Research & Training Alliance advances the interdisciplinary study of normativity — the reasons, standards, and principles that guide and evaluate human action, institutions, and practices.

The Alliance invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the fields of law or philosophy. During the fellowship term, the fellow will be expected to pursue their own research in areas related to the Alliance’s focus on normativity and law, and will have the opportunity to work closely with scholars leading the alliance and affiliated to it in both partner universities. The fellow will also take an active role in the Alliance’s ongoing training and research activities, including coordinating online workshops and the Alliance’s annual conference.

The Alliance is led by Brookes Brown, Larissa Katz, Arthur Ripstein, and Sergio Tenenbaum from the University of Toronto, and Leora Dahan Katz, David Enoch, Adi Goldiner, and Ori Herstein from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Eligibility: 

Applications are welcome from candidates who have completed a PhD, JSD, LLD or equivalent in law, philosophy, or related fields, obtained not earlier than October 2021, or who expect to be awarded their doctoral degree by September 2026.

Duration:

Initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal for an additional year. During the fellowship term, the fellow will be expected to spend one academic year at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and/or the University of Toronto (allocation depending on research and project needs and fellow’s preferences), and to visit the partner institution during the fellowship term.

Salary:

51,000 CAD per year. The postdoctoral fellow will also receive office space, and funding for travel between partner institutions. Additional benefits may include travel allowances for conferences and research activities.

If you choose to take your fellowship at the University of Toronto, please note that should the minimum rates stipulated in the collective agreement be higher than rates stated in this posting, the minimum rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. Some teaching might be available, at a per course basis, according to the terms of the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 Collective Agreement.

The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week for a full-time postdoctoral fellow (pro-rated for those holding a partial appointment) recognizing that the needs of the employee’s research and training and the needs of the supervisor’s research program may require flexibility in the performance of the employee’s duties and hours of work.

Employment as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto is covered by the terms of the CUPE 3902 Unit 5 Collective Agreement.
