The fabrication of our HVAC unit was done in the following ways; VRF systems that consisted of two major components namely
· A compressor that had an outdoor coil obtained from Daikin
· Several indoor fan coil units obtained from Daikin System.
The outdoor unit contained the compressor that conducted the pump pushing refrigerant through piping to the indoor coils and back. In this case, the outdoor coil was water-cooled and it was connected to a cooling tower and boiler to ensure that a least range of temperature was achieved. The compressor unit also provided an adjustable flow of refrigerant by means of an inverter rated motor technology that facilitated the variation of speed of the compressor and therefore permitting for the reduction in energy consumption as well as varying loads within the building to the desired values.
Our system employed a water-cooled unit due to several salient features
· Water cooled VRV unit has the ability to withstand extreme temperatures
· The VRV water cooled unit had an enhanced energy efficiency capability in terms of energy savings potential, water cooled VRV systems can provide a significant advantage
· Increased space savings owing to the fact that the centralized compressors of water cooled VRV condensing units allow for a more consolidated and compact installation. Condensing units are often grouped together side by side or stacked on top of each other reducing overall installation footprint and clearances.
· VRV water cooled systems utilize centrally located compressors located outside of the occupied space for ease of noise/vibration attenuation. By utilizing variable speed compressors and fans, VRV systems are inherently quiet; in many cases, they do not require any special attenuation.
The installed HVAC unit was able to achieve the desired output which was to control the temperature of the room through heating and cooling. It was also possible to control the humidity level in that environment by controlling the movement and distribution of air inside the room. Having an air conditioning and heating system ensured that Drever Building can keep a comfortable temperature in the building no matter what the outside temperature is and also throughout all the seasons
The test was carried out in the following ways
The temperature on the duct work was checked
The supply and return temperature were measured and found to be within the acceptable limits
Having conducted the testing of the HVAC, the following conclusions were drawn based on the VRF HVAC unit performance:
• There was increased energy efficiency and energy savings, for an average of 20% to 30% energy savings relative to other types of HVAC units.
• The installed system had a very good part-load performance due to inverter-duty and variable-speed compressors modulating the capacity from 10% to 100%.
• The principle uses of zoning technique provide good zoning control as well as simultaneous cooling and heating with heat recovery mechanisms.
• The VRF unit also had a considerable reduced ductwork and duct losses in ventilation air system.
So VRF Technology is quite a nice technology
