The dress code for all in-person and virtual plenary sessions is business formal (jacket required). For mission group meetings, the dress code is business casual.

Is it acceptable to have hair dyed non-standard colors?
Yes, for both men and women.
Are there any restrictions on jewelry?
No, both men and women can wear earrings, necklaces, rings, etc.
Are there any restrictions on colors of clothing?
No. In addition to dark blue, dark gray, and black, it is acceptable to wear other colors.
What about shoes? Can we wear sandals?
Yes, sandals and other open-toed shoes are acceptable.
Do women have to wear pantyhose?
No.
How many suits do I need?
Multiple suits are not mandatory; mixing and matching a couple options is okay as long as you have clean, pressed suits for formal days.
Do I need a specific type of bag?
No. Backpacks are acceptable and TechForLife provides laptop bags.
A few days before class begins, you will receive an e-mail to your personal e-mail address from the course directors with the specific time and location for Day One. Expect an early start at the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) in Arlington, VA. Day-use lockers are available on the second floor of the B Building and can fit small bags, shoes, etc.
There are free shuttle bus services from multiple PCS lodging facilities, the Rosslyn metro stop, and Main State (HST) to FSI. PCS lodging facilities with private shuttles have their own schedules. Be on the lookout for an email from your PCS lodging facility regarding shuttle schedules and updates.

There are refrigerators and microwaves available as well as water bottle refill stations in B Building where the majority of orientation takes place. Breakfast, lunch, coffee, and snacks are available for purchase at the cafeteria in C Building, and there is a mini-Starbucks in B Building. There are also microwaves in the cafeteria. Additionally, there is a snack shop in C Building next to the cafeteria.
