“Before we move into the detailed timeline, let’s briefly set the stage for Qatar’s participation in Operation Unity Guardian.
Following the adoption of United Nations (UN) Security Council Resolution on 1 September 2025, authorizing a Chapter VII peace enforcement operation in Almazia, NATO established the Almazia Peace Support Force, or ALFOR.
As a NATO Partner Nation under the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative, the State of Qatar was invited to contribute to the multinational force.
Discussions between the Qatar Ministry of Defence, NATO, and the Lead Nation (LN).quickly identified Qatar’s valuable operational assets.
Within days of the UN mandate, Qatar’s leadership approved participation in ALFOR and authorized the signing of the required agreements with NATO, the Host Nation (HN), and the Lead Nation (LN).
That brings us to the first key event in Qatar’s engagement timeline—on 10 September 2025, the State of Qatar issued its Note of Accession (NOA) to the NATO–Almazia (HN) Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Host Nation Support (HNS).”
The following day, Qatar and the Lead Nation ,concluded their bilateral MOU defining Lead Nation Support responsibilities.
Soon after, from 15 to 20 September, a QAF Observation-Liaison-Reconnaissance Team (OLRT) deployed to Almazia for an initial reconnaissance and coordination visit.
This mission established contact with NATO’s Joint Host Nation Support Cell and local authorities.”
