Obituary
Matthew Aren Brown
Our beloved only son, Matthew Aren Brown passed unexpectedly of undetermined causes on March 25, 2025, in Barneveld NY, where he was residing on the families Sandridge Road woods property with his father. With his dual citizenship status, Matt resided both in the US and in Canada.
Matt was born in Syracuse, NY on May 22, 1994 to his Canadian mother, Michele (Nugent) Brown, Expressive Arts & Wellness Practitioner, and his American father, Judson Brown, PE, who resided and worked as an energy/mechanical engineer in Upstate NY, Canada, and abroad. Matt lived in Syracuse until the age of 15 when the family moved to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
In Edmonton, Matt continued high school and when the family re-located to Yarrow, British Columbia to live in the Eco-village and Groundswell Co-housing, Matt completed his grade 12 diploma at the University of the Fraser Valley, in Chilliwack, BC.
Matt was a sensitive passionate soul, a loyal friend, a loving son. Matt achieved honor roll in school and enjoyed soccer league, golf, tennis, downhill skiing and mountain biking. Matt was an avid gamer, digital creator, an artistic creative soul with talent for woodworking, drawing and photography. He studied mixed martial arts and achieved his black belt.
Matt was known for his loving caring nature, his optimism, his offbeat humor and his kindness. Matt is our greatest teacher: his philosophy of “It is not what you have in life, but who you have in your life that matters.” has guided us.
Matt leaves behind his parents, his aunt and uncle: Sheldon T. Brown and Kathryn Weld, (cousins Nathaniel and William); Auntie Diane and Bill Reno, (cousins, Robert, Keith, and Chris) Auntie Laura and Terry Friend; and 2nd cousins Barry and Brad (sons Kurtis and Ryan) as well as many other relatives and close friends who have cherished their time with him.
Cards, notes, emails, flowers or plants in remembrance of Matt may be sent to 7926 Sand Ridge Road, Barneveld, New York 13304 (or email michelebrown998@gmail.com). Matt was planning to start a garden this spring on the Barneveld property.
Details on the Celebration of Life for Matthew will be posted here when finalized.
“Love you forever and always, Matt”.
