March 12, 2026 - Community Update
Thank you for your continued interest in Union City’s BART Mural Project. The goal of the BART Mural Project is to capture the history, legacy, and richness of the Decoto community, and Union City. We appreciate the 700+ community members that have shared their stories, ideas, and vision for the murals that will be placed on the BART pillars - through the citywide survey, community conversations, community forums, and the Arts and Culture Commission and City Council meetings.
From our outreach activities over the past 7 months, described in the Union City BART Mural Project Community Feedback Report, 5 key themes emerged consistently from the community, on their vision and ideas for the murals. Extensive outreach was done from January 10 to February 19, 2026, to invite the community to prioritize/rank the themes by their order of preference. Below is the ranking in the order, and a visual, of the responses received by the community:
On March 3, 2026, Union City received approval from BART on the themes. The next step is for City staff to provide an update and request approval of the themes and summary report to:
Arts and Culture Commission, on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at 6:00pm
City Council, tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 7:00pm

We encourage you to read the Union City BART Mural Project Community Feedback Report to learn more about this project. Hard copies of the report are available by request, contact us at the email below. The report contains an analysis and summary of the findings from resident input, feedback, and comments.
There will continue to be many opportunities to share your thoughts and ideas over the life of the project. The BART Mural Project is slated to be completed in late 2026/early 2027, the timeline may be adjusted due to unforeseen delays and circumstances.
