Ratho Hall is in the trees on the hill on the north side of the canal. Glimpses are only seen when there are no leaves on the trees.
The owners of Ratho Hall have the Bridge Inn and use vegetables from the walled garden in the Inn restaurant.
Watch out for the Ice House in the grounds of Ratho Hall.
And you might be fortunate to see ‘Lucky’, the Shetland pony and ‘Christopher’ the donkey in the grounds of Ratho Hall.
They are often joined by a family of rabbits, and there may be a buzzard flying overhead.
The hill is "South Platt" and is the site of a bronze age encampment. There were several ancient settlements in this area.
