From the north we approach Ratho along Baird Road and across the canal bridge and then turn right just past the Bridge Inn car park.
From the south, turn right (east) along Main Street and follow the bend round to the left into Baird Road.
The only bus serving the area is the Lothian Buses 20 service which stops near the Bridge Inn. It connects the village to the Gyle Centre and Edinburgh Park station where you can transfer to a tram for the City centre.
The road to our barges runs in front of this block of flats on the corner.
The flats were built in the late 1980s on the site of the former village primary school. The bell tower from the school was incorporated into the new building along with the 1895 date plaque.
A sign on Baird Road by Bridge Inn points to the Seagull Trust Cruises Centre on the Union Canal at Ratho.
Baird Road is named after the Canal Engineer Hugh Baird. The canal opened in 1822.
Follow the drive to the centre parking area:
Our parking area can accommodate three minibuses. Larger vehicles should check before coming down the drive. The area can be congested between 14.30 and 15.00 as morning passengers leave and afternoon passengers arrive.
The Bridge Inn car park should not be used without their permission. There is some public car parking across the canal bridge on Freelands Way and some in front of the flats as you turn off Baird Road.
There is a covered waiting area with accessible toilet but usually we are ready for passengers to get straight on to their barge.
