Dr. Melissa M. Islas Upegui is a medical doctor from Universidad Anáhuac in Mexico City and holds a Master’s degree in Medical Education. She currently serves as Head of the Academic Mobility and Interinstitutional Linkage Unit (MAVI) at the Faculty of Medicine, UNAM. Her clinical and research experience includes work on diabetes and immunology in both Mexico and the United States, with collaborations at the Conde de Valenciana Institute of Ophthalmology (Mexico City), Johns Hopkins Medical Institute (Baltimore), and the University of California campuses in San Francisco and Davis.
