SECTION 4 - Stop and Search
As a PC you have quite a few options when it comes to stop and search legislation, the most common one is S1 of PACE you can use this for pretty much anything. When conducting a stop and search you must always use the GOWISLEY acronym this is as follows:
G - Grounds - What makes you suspect that they have illegal items?
O - Objective - What are you searching for?
W - Warrant card - If your a plain clothed officer you must provide this
I - Identity - Who are you, collar number, name
S - Station - What station are you based out of
E - Entitlement - Explain that they can get a copy of the search for up to 3 months.
L - Legislation - Eg, S1 of PACE
Y - You - You are detained
I am PC J. Hutchkins from the Metropolitan Police Service. You are being detained for a stop and search under Section 1 PACE due to us having reports that you are in possession of weapons. - This would be how you may start the interaction
