Calamus is a genus of the palm family Arecaceae. These are among several genera known as rattan palms. There are an estimated 400 species in this genus, all native to tropical and subtropical Asia, Africa, and Australia.
Approximately 350 types of rattan are found in Indonesia, originating from 9 family, namelyCalamus, Ceratolobus, Daemonorops, Korthalsia, Myrialepis, Pogonotium, Plectocomia, Plectocomiopsis, and Retispatha (Jasni et al. 2007). 9 of these families : two rattan families with high economic value are Calamus and Daemonorops (Uhl and Dransfield (1987)
