iSEE’s Illini Lights Out (ILO) program demonstrates the immense energy-saving impact of simply turning off the lights when you leave a classroom, lab, or study space. On a few Friday nights each month, volunteers gather to form mini lights-out brigades and tour campus buildings, recording how many lights are left on (and shutting off as many as they can, of course). Volunteering takes about an hour and a half, and there are always snacks afterward! Thanks to a grant from the Student Sustainability Committee (SSC), ILO has multiple events you can take part in each semester!

CHP members and guests meet at 4:45 (changed from 5:15) p.m. at the Honors House on event nights & travel the buildings together!

Sept. 15 — Thanks to the 94 volunteers who turned off 2,443 bulbs in 20 buildings, saving as much as 4,214 kWh and $371 over the weekend, and averting as much as 2.9 tons of greenhouse gas emissions!
Sept. 29 — Thanks to the 180 volunteers who turned off 6,059 bulbs in 37 buildings, saving as much as 10,452 kWH and $922, and averting as much as 7.4 tons of GHG!
Oct. 13 — Thanks to the 97 volunteers who turned off 6,020 bulbs in 25 buildings, saving as much as 10,385 kWH and $916, and averting as much as 7.2 tons of GHG!
Nov. 3 — Thanks to the 266 volunteers who turned off 4,832 bulbs in 32 buildings, saving as much as 8,335 kWh and $735, and averting as much as 5.9 tons of GHG!
Dec. 1 - 179 volunteers, 8,987 bulbs, 36 buildings, 15,500 kWh, $1,367, 11 tons GHG.
Jan. 26 - 68 volunteers turned off 2,995 bulbs, saving campus 5,166 kWH and $455, averting 3.7 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions!
Feb. 9 — Thanks to the 147 volunteers who turned off 3,868 bulbs in 33 buildings, saving as much as 6,672 kWh and $588, and averting as much as 4.7 tons of GHG
Feb. 23 — Thanks to the 156 semester-best volunteers who turned of 3,686 bulbs in 28 buildings, saving as much as 6,359 kWh and $561, and averting as much as 4.4 tons of GHG
March 22 — 158 turned off 4,070 bulbs in 33 buildings, saving as much as 7,020 kWh and $619, and averting as much as 4.9 tons of GHG
April 19 — A semester-best 167 volunteers turned off 7,567 bulbs in 34 buildings, saving as much as 13,053 kWh and $1,151, and averting as much as 9.1 tons of GHG
