Main Ideas CNC routing
- To CNC a model, your object needs to be able to exist in a tangible, stagnate world that is not virtual. Meaning that it is a closed object, that has a thickness, it is not a render. It is a representation of a real world thing.
- Properties of appropriate "real world" model.
- Surface Integrity
- Considered as solid material
- Water tight
- No naked edges.
- No missing surfaces/holes
- No manifold surfaces
- Thickness (Object integrity)
- Object integrity, responding to material constraints
- Ability to withstand force (gravity, touch.....)
- Scale, footprint and foundation
- Appropriate "wall thickness" to withstand the force of the milling end mill.
- No wall thickness can be under 1/4" (.25") in your model.
- Formatting model for CNC output.
- Surface Integrity
A CNC router (Or Computer Numerical Control router) is a computer-controlled cutting machine related to the hand held router used for cutting various hard materials, such as wood, composites, aluminium, steel, plastics, and foams.
