Garden Classes

Weekly Garden Lessons

The UELF Garden Program provides weekly 30-minute lessons to our students TK through 5th grade. Our lessons include hands-on activities including planting, seed collection, vegetable harvest, garden maintenance chores, habitat garden observation, and more. Students also often have the opportunity to work in teams to search the garden for evidence of specific animals, plants, or elements and share their ideas both in small groups and in the whole class.

We encourage students to eat what they harvest and to try new fruits and vegetables in the garden. They love the opportunity to try new things and have the experience of eating what they helped to grow. This is an important component of our program to help students build a connection with where food comes from and the work it requires to produce and maintain garden space that provides food for our school community.
