Curriculum Vitae
I obtained my B.A.s in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Puerto Rico - Rio Piedras and Ph.D. in Clinical Health Psychology at the University of Cincinnati. I am currently a Research Fellow at the Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital's Disparities Research Unit. The overarching focus of my research is using community-engaged approaches to address health disparities. I strongly believe in empowering community members to become the principal drivers of change. My community-engaged approach to research extends to my roles as a clinician, educator, and advocate. I view myself as a facilitator of learning rather than an expert imparting knowledge. I work with clients, communities and students to gather, interpret, and apply information that is relevant to their lives. I approach research, teaching, and therapy as processes in which both parties possess unique expertise and contribute equally towards a common goal. I am committed to promoting diversity in every aspect of my work, including research, teaching, mentoring, advocacy, interventions, and clinical efforts. My goal is to become an academic who addresses the needs of underserved populations and increases participation of underrepresented students in the sciences through modeling and mentorship.
