EVERY WEDNESDAY EVENING AT 7.3O
We meet weekly at the Luxford Centre in Uckfield, club nights are Wednesdays at 7.30.
Our membership year runs July to June, membership is £15 for adults and £5 for juniors, plus please also contribute £3 (£2 for juniors) per session you attend, unless you decide to pay 6 or 12-monthly, in which case there are discounted rates. Thanks.
The club meets throughout the year except over Christmas and the New Year in the Tyler Room, on the left after you go in, at the Luxford Centre in Uckfield. You will always get a game. It's 7.30pm to 10.30pm for adults though we normally get there about 7.15 pm when you can help set up and Junior members normally pack up about 9 pm, though later is OK too. If there is no-one there when you arrive, we will be there soon. Get some chairs out!
The Luxford Centre remain cautious of covid because their members are over 55's and instructions for hirers are that sanitiser should be used on entry (and we supply some too). We will not use the kitchen except for matches as that would require another level of cleaning to be carried out.
All standards are welcome, from beginners to experienced players, any age, and we run a number of internal club competitions as well as playing lots of friendly games. There's normally a fair level of chat, so we don't take it too seriously, except on match nights when you need to be quiet.
We entered a team in the Sussex League in 2024-25 and narrowly missed out on promotion.
We also have an online club on chess.com, playing against teams from around the world.

There is plenty of parking adjacent to the club, which is free, and a lot of '10' hour spaces around the back of the club. As the parking is shared with the nearby cinema it is likely that most of the nearby spaces will be full anyway. There are a few 'accessible' spaces right next to the centre itself should you be a badge holder and there are no steps to navigate.
Brian has written an appreciation of Mark Attree who passed away in September, Secretary of the club, here.
