If someone on your team is injured or has some other emergency (e.g. mental health crisis, unrelated medical issue), this is the time to lean on your previous training and Emergency Response Plan that you (hopefully) already wrote out and have a printed copy of! Generally,
Administer appropriate first-aid
Call emergency services (ask a bystander on your team – by name – to call)
Keep the person calm and regulate your own emotions to stay calm
Follow your evacuation protocols

After you have received medical care and reported to your supervisor or PI, work related injuries should be reported as soon as practical to Worker's Compensation through Employee Injury and Illness Reporting (EIIR) or through the University's insurance carrier, Sedgwick, if you can't access EIIR by calling 1-877-682-7778. For serious injury or death call EH&S 530-752-1493 (8am - 5pm), or if after work hours, call Police Dispatch at 532-752-1230. See additional reporting information under Workers Compensation.
Additional Reporting Considerations:
Report if even you get minorly injured on the job – injuries may get worse over time and having early documentation provides proof for workers compensation.
Document that your injury is work-related by telling your doctor so they incorporate this in your patient notes.
Do you qualify for workers comp? Yes, if you are a paid UC employee and were injured while doing your job.
Contact your department safety coordinators for help with safety concerns and questions.
Volunteers are not paid employees and need to complete a volunteer form to cover their liability. Work with your department’s HR contact to do this.
Be mindful of your transportation. Best practice is to use a university vehicle in case of an accident, however, you will not be covered if you are injured while driving for a non-work related purpose.
