ISTOP stands for Internet System for Tracking Over-Prescribing, and it is a system that allows providers to more closely monitor individuals' prescriptions for controlled substances. We as residents need access in order to take care of our patients in a complete manner (emergency medicine, internal medicine, family medicine, etc - most other programs have access, so we shouldn't be any different).
In order to gain access, you need to make an account through the NYS Health Commerce System website by following the instructions below:
Next to "Don't have an account?" click "Sign up here"
A pop up will read "Do you hold a healthcare professional license issued by the New York State Department of Education?" Click NO.
Proceed with registering for an account. (It says, "for non-medical professionals", but this is the correct link).
Once we've all completed this, a designated HCS coordinator will make us their "designees" so that we can access the system.
